Kildare County Council have announced that this Christmas any of their car parks as well as parking along the main street will carry no charge for motorists and shoppers from December 17th until January 2nd.
Last year they employed this scheme but there was confusion about whether parking was in fact free with over €7,000 put into machines inadvertently. Having traffic wardens on duty confused people and the fact that the parking machines accepted money also helped in confusing people as to whether parking was in fact free.
This year there is no doubt that it needs to be made clearer to motorists which areas are offering free parking but Kildare County Council want to ensure people that the parking will be free for the two and a half weeks, regardless of whether the machines accept money.
So this Christmas holiday for those who leave it to the last week to get their shopping done you can be safe in the knowledge that they won’t return to their car with a parking ticket.
